Sending cards and making gifts from scratch are labors of love and TIME. Up until a few years ago, I hand made the 200 Christmas cards I sent out, and I loved every minute of it.
However, today at this stage in life, I do not have the 60 hours I used to spend on that activity. I did send out photo holiday cards for a few years. But I stopped that, too.
DISCLAIMER – I LOVE getting ALL cards. I WILL one day get back to sending cards, too! But for TODAY these are the reasons I am not sending cards – just for this season in my life.
Read to the end to hear about what I AM DOING this year.
Why?

Money was a big factor. Our finances are squeaky tight.
Time was another one. I like to hand address my envelopes and make the cards too. By the time I was sending photo cards with address labels run through my printer I felt more like I was checking an item off my list than sharing my creativity and time with my family and friends.
My love language is acts of service. That’s why I love to organize a space for a client and see how much they love the results. It just propels me further to work harder and faster. I don’t like to do things just to do them or do the same thing twice.
I have prioritized IRL friendships more in recent years. I can be rather Sheldonish {the Big Bang Theory} when it comes to interactions. I like lists, productivity and results. But I am changing. I can now be social just to be…social. SO weird for me! I call family more now. I linger after church is out. I come early to networking events, and I scrapbook monthly with friends.
I LOVE Facebook. The new algorithm that is hiding my Facebook Page from 95% of you is frustrating the heck out of me, but I LOVE connecting on Facebook. I have about 10-12 groups that I read every message in every day. I check all my statuses and see who likes posts, comments and shares. I try to share different stuff in each of the groups I am in and on my personal page. I know some people don’t like Facebook {hubby!}, but I LOVE it! I have connected with SO many people who were never on my holiday card list.
My kids are tweens. They are not babies. Our life is rather routine with middle schoolers. There’s not that much to share. As a now over 40 mama, my life is starting to shift back to me… and my kids are starting to develop their own future aspirations and goals. I’m not bribing the kiddos with cookies to get the cute Christmas card photo like I used to. I’m just not taking as many photos as I used to… period.
What about you? What do you WANT to do? And when will you do it?
2015 update: This year I AM going to send cards! We desperately need a new family picture and it has been WAY too long since the last time I sent cards!
